Due to heavy submissions volume and tax season opening two weeks later than usual, ADOR technical staff are actively working towards accepting and processing individual income tax returns as soon as possible. We will inform you when your return has been accepted for processing. Thank you for your patience and we apologize for any inconvenience.

Customer Notice: Due to COVID-19, ADOR's in-person lobby services are by appointment only and in compliance with local municipal and county face covering policies.

Checking the Status of a Return

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

Individuals awaiting a refund can check the status by visiting the “Where’s My Refund” link available on AZTaxes.gov. Tax return and refund processing times vary and depend on how the taxpayer filed (e-file or paper) and when he or she filed.

Taxpayers who file early in the tax season will have their returns processed much faster than those individuals who file closer to the due date. In addition, e-filed returns process faster than paper returns. For paper filed returns, taxpayers should allow 8 weeks from the date filed before calling to check on the status of a return.

After the 8-week timeline, taxpayers can inquire about their returns by calling (602) 255-3381, or, if calling from area codes 520 or 928, they can call toll-free to (800) 352-4090. Callers must be prepared to provide their social security number, zip code, filing status and the exact amount of their refund reported on their returns.
