Mandatory Changes to Arizona Withholding for Wages Paid after June 30, 2010

Senate Bill 1185 (Laws 2009, 1st Reg. Session, Chapter 2) amended the amounts required to be withheld for Arizona withholding purposes. Through June 30, 2010, the amount required to be withheld was a percentage of federal withholding. For amounts withheld on or after July 1, 2010, the amount required to be withheld will no longer be a percentage of federal withholding. Amounts withheld on or after July 1, 2010, must be based on a table prescribed by the department.

When to expect your refund if you filed a paper income tax return?

If you filed a paper income tax return and expect a refund, it can take up to twelve weeks to receive it.  For a faster refund next year, try filing electronically with your refund sent to you via direct deposit.  E-filed tax returns are easy to prepare, are processed much quicker, and you can receive your refund in as little as ten days with direct deposit.

Please don’t forget that April 15th is the due date for filing!

Reductions to Arizona Withholding Tax

House Bill 2287 allows employees to request that their employer reduce their withholding by the amount of the tax credit the employee will qualify for and be entitled to claim for contributions to charitable organizations when filing their tax return.  The A1-C – Arizona Charitable Withholding Statement can be found by clicking on the Forms tab on the left side of the screen.  Please read the Information Sheet found on the Withholding Tax Page for a description of this change.
