PHOENIX – Attorney General Mark Brnovich announced a State Grand Jury indicted Randolph Ezrre, of Rio Rico, with Fraudulent Schemes and Artifices, and 11 counts of Filing a False Tax Return for allegedly failing to pay transaction privilege tax, also known as sales tax, on used car sales in 2017 and 2018.

The Arizona Department of Revenue (ADOR) treats detecting and stopping fraud with paramount importance and reminds taxpayers that tax filing season is a time to be aware of identity thieves looking for ways to commit tax fraud.

The department points to phishing schemes, card-skimming devices, unsecure Wi-Fi networks, data breaches, computer viruses, unsafe smartphone apps, and hacking email accounts as ways identities are stolen.

Arizona Department of Revenue Enhances Customer Service with Kiosk Option

2019 Arizona Lottery Subtraction Repealed
Wednesday, January 8, 2020

House Bill 2757, passed during the 2019 Arizona legislative session, repealed the Arizona lottery subtraction.  As a result, individual taxpayers may no longer subtract from their income the amount of prizes or winnings up to $5,000 in a single taxable year from any of the state lotteries.

The removal of the Arizona lottery subtraction applies retroactively to taxable years beginning from and after December 31, 2018.

Revised threshold for TPT electronic filing and paying goes into effect Jan. 1, 2020
Monday, December 30, 2019

Under legislation that became law in 2017, businesses with an annual transaction privilege tax (TPT) and use tax liability of $5,000 or more during the prior calendar year will be required to file and pay electronically starting in February 2020 for the January reporting period.

The revised 2020 threshold of $5,000 is a change from the 2019 level of $10,000.
